Functional Medicine Health Coaches Make Healthy Lifestyle Changes Possible

Functional Medicine Health Coaches know there’s more to a healthy lifestyle than fad diets and unsustainable exercise regimens. There’s a gap between what clients know they need to do to be healthy and the intrinsic motivation they need to actually make and sustain those changes. Coaches bridge that gap.

Functional Medicine Health Coaches use Functional Medicine principles & positive psychology coaching techniques to:

  • Educate clients and help them understand their doctor’s plan of care
  • Offer tools and accountability when clients implement new lifestyle changes
  • Motivate clients using positive psychology techniques
  • Guide clients through dietary changes, food plans, and physical activity protocols
  • Lead clients through group coaching sessions on specific topics
  • Work directly with the client’s practitioner when appropriate
  • Celebrate successes and encourage progress

The NBC-HWC certification represents the highest level in the field of health coaching. Only graduates from an NBHWC approved school are eligible to sit the NBC-HWC exam to become NBC-HWC board certified.

NBC-HWC Accreditation

The NBC-HWC credential is offered by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching, or NBHWC (this organization was previously known as ICHWC, or the International Consortium for Health & Wellness Coaching.) Through its partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners, the NBHWC establishes professional standards for health coaching and measures the competencies and skills coaches need to be effective.

The NBC-HWC credential signals to clients, collaborators, and employers that a health coach has the skills, training, and practice needed to be a professional coach. The core competencies needed to become a board-certified health coach are based on an extensive job task analysis and a survey of more than 1,000 practicing health coaches.

There are a variety of health coaches working in the field, however there is no requirement for certification. Choose a coach who has met the gold standard for training to best support you!
